WG4 CLIDEEP Meeting Summary

CLIDEEP Meeting Participants

The INDEEP WG4 team led an international workshop focused on assessing the impacts of synergistic climate change stress on deep-sea benthic ecosystems (CLIDEEP) at Friday Harbor Laboratory, USA in May 2012. The workshop gathered together 23 scientists, post-docs and students from 8 countries and 18 different institutes to synthesize and begin analyzing the effects of single climate change stressors (e.g. warming) and synergistic effects (e.g. warming, acidification and reduced food supply) on deep-sea benthic ecosystems. The workshop, which was funded by the Norwegian Research Council was chaired by Dr. Andrew Sweetman (Norwegian Institute for Water Research), Dr. Andrew Thurber (Oregon state University), Dr. Lisa Levin (Scripps Inst. for Oceanography) and Dr. Craig Smith (Univ. of Hawaii at Manoa) and the results from the workshop are still being analyzed for publication in a number of high profile papers together with a synthesize paper.
