First INDEEP WG3 Settlement Frames Successfully Deployed!

Transocean ROV images of settlement frames in-situ

The INDEEP WG3 team have been working with SERPENT and Transocean and are delighted to announce the deployment of their first two settlement frames on a Transocean rig (attached to the blow out preventer - see photo) in the North Atlantic.  These prototype frames have been filmed in-situ by the Transocean ROV and we are happy to report they are in tact and hopefully attracting interest from passing creatures!  The two frames, consisting of 4 different substrate types, will be on the seabed for approximately 6 months before being recovered and analysed back at NOC.  A further 4 frames are to be deployed on landers in Mid-Atlantic Canyons by Dr Sandra Brooke (Marine Conservation Institute) and her team this August and it is intended that these frames will be recovered after around 1 year.  We will keep you posted.... If you have an opportunity to deploy a frame or two in the deep to aid with this connectivity project, please contact Maria Baker (mb11@noc.soton.ac.uk) and Anna Metaxas (metaxas@dal.ca).
